Overall, a beautiful setting, great service, and delicious food. They brought out some cannoli as a free birthday dessert which topped off the night. After telling the server what I like in a white wine, she brought me two to sample and I settled on a viognier which was new for me and quite good. The fingerling potatoes were buttery smooth and delicious and the asparagus was cooked to perfection. My salmon was great, but would have been better with the seasoning on the side without the skin since I peeled that off anyway. My dad had Sea Bass which was outstanding although we somehow missed the fact that there would be so many mushrooms in the vegetables served and neither of us is a big fan. The chowder was good, but to me was not exciting. We shared the crab cakes which were some of the best I personally have ever had and then each had a cup of clam chowder. Big windows looking out on the water across the length of the restaurant make the new name of this restaurant quite appropriate. The layout of the restaurant reminded me of the Chart House which closed years ago but which used to be a great place for a special night out. The staff had put a birthday balloon at our table. Walking in, we were greeted warmly and seated immediately for our reservation. I remember my parents mentioning the Scotch and Sirloin and I know I heard friends mention Rumb Line, but I'd never been to either. Honestly, I wasn't even aware this restaurant was here. My dad took me here for a "father daughter" dinner to celebrate my 50th birthday. And the food was superb and endless including crab, oysters, shrimp, lamb, prime rib, and 5 times the offerings of Waters Edge. We ended up eating at Austen’s at Pierpont Inn which was a fantastic treat. As a business owner myself, I know the value of a customer and the cost of procuring good customers so I would have to give them a thumbs down in their customer service department. Again without hesitation or concern she said no Okay, my daughter is an award winning restauranteur and business woman and knows the value of treating people with some empathy and concern. The new restaurant is at 1510 Anchors Way. I looked over the buffet they were offering and was not overly impressed so I asked again if we could be reseated explaining we were right in the bar area and 3 ft from the buffet. Water’s Edge Restaurant and Bars marketing director Misa Silva stands in front of the restaurants main dining area that overlooks the Ventura Harbor. This is not what we were told when we made the reservation. When we asked why they said all the tables were preassigned. When we asked to be reseated we were told no. The hostess sat us at a table above the dining area in the bar right adjacent to the buffet bar and passage area. ![]() We arrived 5 minutes early for our reservation and the restaurant had 3 or so tables seated and was otherwise empty. As for the other annoyances.we can live with it in our restaurant starved county.Reserved a table for two at Waters Edge for Easter Brunch. Overall we probably would eat there again as the meal was very good. Example: "are you guys done?" And lastly, it is considerably more expensive (filet mignon = $37.00) than most restaurants in Ventura County. She did bring the check with the obligatory."have a nice night." The waitstaff was very attentive but seemed to be in the training mode. She only took our order and others delivered our food and cleaned our table. The whole time she was taking our order she was looking elsewhere. The waitress was disengaged in seeing to it that we had a pleasant visit. The other negatives.very noisy with all of the hard surfaces. ![]() Most dinners sitting along the window were wearing sunglasses it was so bright. And beware that if you go there around sunset the tables against the windows get the direct sun. ![]() It is right on the water at Ventura Harbor but the view is not as good as the one at Brophy Brothers across the harbor. Ventura county does not have very good restaurants so I would have to say this is one of its better places to dine. My wife had the halibut which also was excellent. ![]() The accompanying mashed potatoes were very good also but the asparagus was very under cooked. Cooked perfectly, tender and with great taste. I had the filet mignon and it was excellent. We were pleasantly surprised this time as the food's quality, presentation and portions was very good. Our last visit for dinner was after it just opened and that was not such a good experience. As a result of our good experience at happy hour we decided to give it another try for dinner.
